Today is Sunday, the day of rest!!
I'm going to rest today if it kills me!! I'm tired and I'm feeling it...I watched TV this morning in my P.J's and had breakfast at the same time.. I made some cheese biscuits yesterday and left some to cook for this morning...so we cheese biscuits, cheese and eggs (two different cheeses) bacon and sopped a little syrup with it...while watching American Homestead and Folkways..(we love those program) and always complain that we should have had a farm! Judge Judy wants to be 6' tall :o)
Y'all enjoy your Sunday and rest if you can ..That's when we always end up working the hardest...

I've had a really hard time getting done with this Pear project! I'm still working hard to get it done..and I'm greedy when it comes to making a nice cobbler with them..I dried some and Cecil loves them ..guess I have to keep hi happy since he did help with the peeling...some went into the freezer, either way I need a good quart to make a small cobbler for Cecil and I ( I should say Cecil he always goes back for seconds, I take a good dip the first time :o). I love knowing what's in my jars anyway...Now here's a new batch to put away...Half are promised :o) to others. That's a lot of work and a lot of joy!
I need more jars, and or freezer space ...Thank Goodness i cleaned out that closet..Now I've got more room:o) for filled jars..it looks
pretty neat..I'll show a picture later...

It's canning time again!
String Beans with Potatoes and some just String Beans |
Yesterday was started early for us and good thing it did...the early bird catches the worm
and we caught a nice fat one :o) Our intent was to get some nice skinny string beans from the Farmers Market..and blessed us it was our second vendor, which I could have missed for them being the last ones down the isle...needless to say we were busy as bees, into the night..where the energy came from I don't know but I had it ..and I was sweating bullets :o).but it was well worth the effort...in a close up you can see some string beans and potatoes in the jar and the liquid I used was the bits of country ham that I would use for seasoning in corn bread etc...I boiled it strained it and used it as my hot broth,(I'm such a smart A**) or maybe just being taught "waste not want not".
What you see is a half bushel, the other half was put into the freezer..I blanch them, cool them, drain them and them into a gallon size baggie..this way I take out only what i need.

The last time you read about Gingerbread's house, she was thinking she better put away these pears before the trip to a Kentucky wedding..Well she didn't do it and out of all these I was only able to get five quarts :o(
Thank God for the farmers :o)...I'll need more.
In the mean time.. I had a wonderful wedding to attend....The first born of my first born :o)
It was a lovely Wedding in a little Chapel and the Reception was held in the Stakes Room at Churchill Downs..It was picture perfect in every way..
I Took movies and single pictures...(now to find them :o( and put them here in order .

Today I made Laundry Detergent
Today I decided to try my hand at making some laundry detergent..with Bleach alternate :o)....I've made soap before , with the old Lye< but that's hard to find these days and so I got out of the habit ..(I've got plenty of recipes for it)...any how! there are quite a few recipes out there on the Internet, and they all just about have the same ingredients..
I chose to make this one because I didn't have the 5 gallon bucket required for the other...and I wanted to try the powder ..I had been saving little chips of soap (mostly dove, ivory, and dial....(I must have had at least two or three bars if they were whole)...I used my new big food processor to grind them into small bits like they were shaved and blend them with the Borax and Washing SODA...It was so darn easy ...it left me speechless...The recipe is as follows...
1 bar soap
1/2 cup Borax
1/2 cup washing SODA (don't be confused with baking soda)
Blend all together....use 1 tablespoon per load...
The reason I underlined because it's so hard to believe...I didn't trust it so I used 2 :o)
Well, I hate to tell you what I spent for that bottle of tide you see!...it will become a relic...Cecil says he has a bucket for me in the shed...I'll be making the liquid soap next.
I could add a 1/2 cup vinegar to my white wash if I like ...the smell will dissipate in the drying..So I don't need to buy bleach..I love to save a dollar..If anything changes I'll let you know...
