Still working on the "Prickly Pear Project"!!!

I thought I'd be a little further along today, but that's not the case! Ever start something and get so far you can't give it up, least all your effort go to waste?...Well, that's this one here,me and the prickly pears.. I have one suggestion..don't start the project unless your really committed!!
\First I started out with my old friend my "Champion" I had the receipt stapled to the cover of the book (Jan 6. 1973) it is still is in good working order but my hands aren't (pushing and pulling) and I had to switch to my Modern gadget and new best friend :o)

So far I have a pot of slimy gook and cheese cloth that I'm going to let drip in between the squeezing to get more gook! I'm hoping that slimy gook will make me some nice jelly or jam! and I'm going to boil up the seeds that I saved and I'm sure I can make some juice out of it..and use it with my tea and lemonade..I'm told it's good to help diabetics ..we shall see...Maybe I will invent something new and become very rich and have my blog done by someone else all I have to do is dictate  what I want her to say...while I'm sipping on my new found money maker :o)
Now you know I'm tired or something is wrong with me having delusions of grandeur :o)

  1. Ginny, I get such a kick out of you. :-) I hope you don't forget us little people when you are sitting around dictating your blog to someone else. HA! :D Hope your prickly pear project turns out well. Have a nice Sunday.

  3. Hi Ginny,

I did not know you could use prickly pears to make jelly and stuff! I would be too afraid of those stickers to fool with it. Let us know if this turn out to be very tasty and really worth all that trouble.

  4. Dorothy, the stickers are called "glockets"but since I've been working with the P.Pears I've given them another name &^%** if you can read that language.:o(
It will be worth it when I'm done , because I would have learned something and so will a few others, and if I do it better I will be rich :o).. ( I really need a nap) Ginny

  5. Ginny, you are too funny! Just don't use "slimy gook" in your sales presentation! I'll be so proud to see your smiling face on your tea packages. I can say, "I knew her when . . ."

  6. Hi Ginny! Living in West Texas, where cactus and prickly pear are every foot where one walks, I have tasted pricly pear jelly. It is very good. If you lived here, you would have an unending supply!LOL. We also have an abundance of Mesquite beans from the pricly mesquite trees. I have also tasted Mesquite bean jelly, and it too, is good. Have fun! blessings,Kathleen
Oh, one more thing. Remember the cotton I sent to you and it was full of cotton seed? Well, the cafe I cook at only uses cottonseed oil to fry our foods in. It is manufactured at the local gin. It is a little more yellow in color than vegetable oil, but does not have a flavor to it. The cafe has used it since they opened up 15 years ago to contribute to the local cotton farmers.

  7. Kathleen there is something new to learn everyday. I've never seen a Mesquite tree to know what I was looking at.:o) My Mother may have known since she was born and raised in Texas...but no longer with us.
