What I've been up too!

Can you believe how fast (3 days) the Boc Choy babies came up! I'm hoping for some real yummy treats from it if it keeps on growing up like this :o)

I have been trying to wait for my Oregano in the pot to grow up a bit before trying to clip some for drying..well, yesterday was a busy one clipping it and also some Orange and Chocolate mint for tea's..A cup of Steeped Tea in the afternoon seems to perk me up...and I like it with  sardines mixed with mayonnaise , onions and spices < Cecil hates it, but I grew up on it and it's a comfort food for me when I'm not feeling well, like today!  When he's not feeling well or I want to get him to do something, I fix him chicken and dumplings :o) that's his comfort food.

Now I'll sit at the table and grind up my spices in the mini processor and put them into labeled containers. Of course I'll add the words "Homegrown". :o)  Afterwards I'll have my lunch and try out some tea :o).

  1. Mmmm...sardines, I like them too. Love what you have been doing with the tea, my wife was drying some lemon balm and raspberry leaves just yesterday for her tea concoctions.

  2. Mr. H. I'm begining to learn there are many things that can be done with leaves..Tea being one and seasoning being the other..You just have to stop, look, and listen :o) those Raserry leaves sounds interesting ..what about strawberry and or blueberries?

  3. I've never grown anything to use for tea, I need to get on the bandwagon. Which of the two mints do you like best?

Hmmm, raspberry leaves? I sure have enough of those!

I finally got oregano to grow for me this year, after several previous failures. It looks like I'll soon get enough to dry.

  4. Annie's Granny, Your still ahead, I don't have any Raspberry. I have plenty of Oregano ..I made the mistake of planting it in the garden long ago and now can't tell which is weed...So I started one in the Box garden and removed it into a large pot, where it will grow without climbing over everything else...I had Orange Mint tea today and it tastes a little more delicate than I thought ..not heavy orange at all, yet delicious (even with the sardine mixed sandwich :o)

  5. Two years in a row I planted oregano, and it got a tiny clump the size of a dime then died. This year I finally made it, and the pot is beginning to fill to overflowing...I actually got to cut some for spaghetti sauce! I used the same packet of seeds, so I don't know what caused the first two failures.

I think I'm going to go over to the nursery next week and buy a pack of sweet peppers. Mine may or may not perk up, but one can never have too many. I'll check to see if they have any orange mint, I'm sure I must have another empty pot somewhere ;-)

  6. Annie's Granny, I'm sure as grits and gravy you'll find something to put it in , even if it's a cut off milk container :o)

  7. Sorry to hear you're not feeling well, Ginny. I hope you feel better soon. Comfort food and a cup of tea sound like good medicine to me.

  8. I hope you feel better, Miss Ginny! Sardines wouldn't do it for me. Grilled cheese is my comfort food.

  10. Ginny, Thank you so much for reminding us about drying stuff. We have a huge basil plant and we didn't know what to do with those wonderful leaves. Tomorrow we'll put them in the dryer. Thanks again for the idea! It's perfect.

  11. Jody, glad I was able to touch your senses :o), Just as another reminder..pluck each leaf and put it into a container in the freezer...I tried that last year and that works too :o) Happy Harvesting.

  12. Hi Ginny! I have been using my dehydrator to fix my homegrown herbs as well! The tea sounds wonderful! I used to grow lemon mint and use it in tea. I may not have even a zinnia to grow this year. The dust and hot wind has burned my pumpkin and zinnias aways. I have just replanted.........hoping this hot drought will pass. Have a good week! blessings,Kathleen

  13. Kathleen, I'm sorry you lost those beatiful Zinna's and it's dry here also and my poor plantings are withering so badly, we are also in need of rain..home watering isn't the same.We just have to keep trying, my cabbage is trying hard to "head up" I want to make some Kraut out of them..I will plant a fall crop if necessary to do it.
