Update: on Making Butter
I wasn't too satisfied with the consistancy of the Butter I made yesterday , it was quite soft and still had more liquid than i noticed..
So this morning I "re-Churned" it an extra 4 minutes to make sure I had as much liquid out of it, and to see what would happen and I'm glad I did. Re-Churning took out more liquid and then I was more satisfied with it .
Next time I'll do it longer the first time < that's an important part of making butter.
I made biscuits for dinner tonight with leftover mashed potatoes, Rutabaga greens and beef and gravy. I don't have to tell you it was good :o) Look how much butter is left now :o(, that was a 16oz container I started with that means I will have to make more. The butter is very tasty and I will add some spices maybe next time..Probably next week.
Live and learn with experience, Ginny! :D Your dinner sounds delicious as always. I bet Cecil was quite pleased.
ReplyDeleteNot only Cecil was pleased, So was I :o) I don't usually like leftovers at all...the Mashed potatoes were nice and creamy and with short ribs and gravy that made it more enjoyable and the last of the Rutabaga greens, what more could we ask for :o) (except more greens later) Ginny
ReplyDeleteThanks for more information on the butter-making process, Ginny. I mentioned it to Grenville and we may try it - one day. I'll bet you even made you own biscuits from "scratch" and wondered if a recipe will be posted for the. The dinner "sounded" delicious. There's sure nothing like cooking at home.
ReplyDeleteBeatrice, yes I do make my own bisquits, and I call them "Angel Biscuits". Why , because I'm not too good making rolls :o( but I make a heck of an "Angel Biscuit"
ReplyDeleteespecially if I'm in a bread making mood :o). I also keep a package of Mrs B's biscuits on standby in the freezer.
They are large and pretty good for store bought. If you have a food processor, making butter is just too easy.
It just pays to know how. Ginny
Mmmm, biscuits with butter! Yummy! When I was a small child we used to make butter. My mom gave us each a jar of cream and we shook it until - voila! Three jars of butter. Once Mom was whipping the cream for pumpkin pie and she wasn't paying close attention, and she had flecks of butter in it from too much mixing.
ReplyDeleteLadydi, sounds like the Pumpkin pie would be good with those flecks of butter, I put butter in the ones I have made. I had toast this morning with my "New" butter :o) and I really felt like I was a farmer, but I don't have a desire to raise cows :o)...I still want some chickens..Ginny
ReplyDeleteWell I'm making butter tomorrow Ginny! I got me some heavy cream today and can't wait to try it. Who knows I'm might get energetic and make it after supper tonite! Let you know how it turns out.
ReplyDeleteThe worst part in making butter in the food processor is cleaning it up afterwards :o) ...Post it when your done.
ReplyDeleteGinny
Guess What Ginny! I MADE BUTTER!!! I'm worse than a kid waiting for Christmas; that food processor and cream was calling my name! That butter turned out so good and I salted mine. So I cooked eggs and bacon for supper and had some of that butter and my pumpkin butter to go on the biscuits. I was in hog heaven. See, you can teach an old dog some new tricks.
ReplyDeleteYour dinner sounds delicious. I just finished looking through some of your older posts and am delighted to see your love of cooked greens and enjoyed looking at the wonderful garden pictures, your rutabagas look really nice.:)
ReplyDeleteMama bug, congratulations! You now have butter :o) and yep! we old dogs can learn new tricks if we keep our eyes open and be ready to accept change (that's the hardest part :o). I'm glad you didn't wait too long to try it...that's when you lose..Ginny
ReplyDeleteHi Mr H., thanks for visiting and I'm glad you enjoyed browsing my blog, Come back often I'm always up to something :o) I had a good time today with yours and will add it to my Blog list, I think others will enjoy it too. Dinner was as good as it sounded and now no left overs. Ginny
ReplyDeleteI make butter by shaking cream in a jar.. I just love it and am making another batch today. Your sweet potatoes look lovely - would you post a recipe for sweet potato pie?
ReplyDeleteI use "shaken" butter, lard, and buttermilk for my biscuits but they arent as 'heavenly' as real 'angel' biscuits!
:-)
OhioFarmGirl, your biscuits sound delicious even though they aren't Angel Biscuits. If I were to shake my butter out of the cream I wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much, that would tire this old lady out :o).The processor is a good gift from a daughter..Ginny
