Today I made Laundry Detergent

Today I decided to try my hand at making some laundry detergent..with Bleach alternate :o)....I've made soap before , with the old Lye< but that's hard to find these days and so I got out of the habit ..(I've got plenty of recipes for it)...any how!  there are quite a few recipes out there on the Internet, and they all just about have the same ingredients..
I chose to make this one because I didn't have the 5 gallon bucket required for the other...and I wanted to try the powder ..I had been saving little chips of soap (mostly dove,ivory,and dial....(I must have had at least two or three bars if they were whole)...I used my new big food processor to grind them into small bits like they were shaved and blend them with the Borax and Washing SODA...It was so darn easy ...it left me speechless...The recipe is as follows...
1 bar soap
1/2 cup Borax
1/2 cup washing SODA  (don't be confused with baking soda)
Blend all together....use 1 tablespoon per load...
The reason I underlined because it's so hard to believe...I didn't trust it so I used 2 :o)
Well, I hate to tell you what I spent for that bottle of tide you see!...it will become a relic...Cecil says he has a bucket for me in the shed...I'll be making the liquid soap next.
I could add a 1/2 cup vinegar to my white wash if I like ...the smell will dissipate in the drying..So I don't need to buy bleach..I love to save a dollar..If anything changes I'll let you know...

Well, my goodness, Miss Ginny, as if you didn't already have enough to do! What will you be trying next? Very impressive, but I think I'll continue to buy my detergent at the dollar store. :>}

The dollar store has some good deals,and I'll still shop there...that's the one store that Cecil announces "Buy whatever you like"..You can spend a goodly amount there if your not careful...you think oh! it's only a dollar, do that a few times and you'd be surprised at the total...

Ginny, you're so clever. Good for you! Things do add up quick at the dollar store, though, that's true! :)

I too love the $ store and have done a lot of Christmas shopping there and all the items were loved (of course I didn't tell anyone where they came from) A friend of mine made her own soap a year or so ago and I always wanted to try but then forgot all about it..I think I may just give it a try soon. Thanks for the recipe :)

In today's economy and with the prices of everything going sky high, it's best to save where ever you can..
Things don't have to be drastic to learn how to cut corners when you can..it just equips you if that time should come..I don't know about anybody but me..the end of the month comes pretty quick..

Love it, Ginny! I've considered this, but you make it seem so simple that I just might have to do it after I finish up with my bag of Charlie's Soap
